FAQ

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Everything you ever wanted to know about Berea Kiwanis or at least some things you may have wondered
about. If you have any other questions, please

Q: What is Kiwanis International?'

A: Kiwanis International is a global community of men and women with clubs, members, and partners dedicated to
improving the lives of children one community at a time. Today, we stand with more than 550,000 members
from K-Kids to Key Club to Kiwanis and many ages in between 80 countries and geographic areas. Each
community has different needs, and Kiwanis empowers members to pursue creative ways to serve the needs
of children, such as fighting hunger, improving literacy, and offering guidance. Kiwanis clubs host nearly
150,000 service projects each year.

Q: What is the structure of Kiwanis?

A: Kiwanis International is organized into clubs, divisions, districts and international. This multi-leveled
leadership hierarchy means members are supported by a larger network of leaders who are prepared to help
clubs be successful while improving communities. The Berea Kiwanis has been in existence for over 100
years and is in Division 24.

Q: Is Berea Kiwanis Membership only for Berea residents?

A: No. It is open to all Communities based on the location you are most comfortable with. Our fundraising and
benefit activities are centered around the Berea Community.

Q: Is Kiwanis a political or religious organization?

A: Kiwanis is not a political organization - our members have different beliefs but we do not endorse any
candidate or political issue. Kiwanis is not a religious organization - our members come from all faiths, yet we
come together united in a desire to serve children. While "spirituality" is a component of Kiwanis, there is no
one religion endorsed by Kiwanis.

Q: What is the time commitment to becoming a member?

A: Berea Kiwanis club members are asked to attend as many Tuesday evening meetings as possible. They
are also encouraged to attend board meetings at their convenience. Members are asked to join a committee
and are expected to volunteer at our fundraising events and other club activities and service projects.

Q: Does it cost anything to become a member?

A: Yes. It's a sliding fee depending on when you join in relation to our Berea Kiwanis fiscal year (October -
September). Full year dues are $150. Kiwanis International also offers a discount to those who were in a

Kiwanis sponsored Youth organization (K-Kids, Key Club, Circle K, etc). Members are also responsible for
paying for their own meals when attending the weekly meetings.

Q: What do the dues cover?

A: Liaisons from the District and International Kiwanis to counsel our club and give us fresh ideas.
District newsletter of projects around the Northeast Ohio area. Kiwanis magazine of projects around the world.
Kiwanis International member website tools, free literature, and other operational costs. Being part of a larger global organization helps to change the whole world, one club at a time.

Q: How do I join the Berea Kiwanis?

A: There are many ways you can volunteer your services to our Club. Please speak to a current Berea
Kiwanis member or                 to have someone contact you.
